Permanent Veterinary Surgeon - Wiltshire

Type: Small Animal

Location: Wiltshire - within 20 miles of Swindon

Practice: They are part of the proudly independent group which includes a Veterinary Hospital in Malmesbury, the oldest Borough in England and, gateway to the southern end of the Cotswolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. They also have three local branches that are within 20 miles of the mail practice.

Facilities: As part of our commitment to provide the highest standard of animal healthcare, advice and treatment, we offer many facilities which include:

  • 24-hour emergency cover
  • Qualified veterinary nursing staff living on the premises (an important factor in maintaining their Hospital status)
  • Three fully equipped operating theatres with modern anaesthetic equipment
  • Heated wards and comfortable hospitalisation facilities
  • A dedicated Isolation Ward, separate from our cattery and kennels
  • Separate hospital wards for cats and dogs (and separate waiting areas at the Hospital)
  • Specialist diagnostics, including laparoscopy, digital radiography, ECG recording, endoscopy, bronchoscopy, ultrasound, and blood pressure monitoring.
  • Laser treatments
  • Modern equipment to provide full dental treatments
  • On-site laboratory which produces high-quality results quickly
  • Computerised client records and fully itemised invoices
  • Advice is freely available on feeding, breeding, worming, and all aspects of general pet care, including a regular Well Pet Clinic run by our excellent nursing staff
  • A Pampered Puppy club to follow on from first vaccinations - this includes free monthly veterinary examinations
  • Animal Health Certificates

Role: Our client has an opportunity for a colleague with at least two years’ experience to join their existing small animal team of 19 vets.

Support: In a stimulating and supportive working environment, our client encourages clinical freedom and case continuity, helping them deliver a high standard of care. Support is always available from their friendly and approachable team of vets which includes certificate holders and others working towards the qualification, as well as visiting specialists.

Hours: They value the care their colleagues bring to both patients and that they show each other. They offer a 4-day week and 1:15 OOH rota, and place a strong emphasis on work-life balance.

More About The Practice:

  • They are VetGDP accredited by the RCVS and recruit two new graduates annually onto their new graduate programme. Their superb nurse and administration team includes dedicated night nurses, who all ensure high professional standards of care and support. In fact, they have just been assessed as “Outstanding” in In-patient Service in a recent RCVS PSS Awards Assessment.
  • They have a Forum that meets regularly with representatives from each veterinary department in the Group to give feedback and bring new ideas helping to guide the direction of the practice and improve the working environment and processes. Some of the more recent improvements driven by the forum have been an enhanced maternity pay package, additional childcare support, and top-up support for those meeting jury service requirements.
  • There are plenty of opportunities to socialise across all departments, either through smaller events like netball, book club, craft club, or otherwise charitable endeavours- this summer they raised over £6,000 with a bike ride and also took part in the Malmesbury Carnival procession. Their summer BBQ and Christmas party are always great fun and well attended.

Salary: They are offering an excellent salary of up to £70,000 p/a depending on qualifications and experience.

Benefits: As a hospital, they have all the equipment you would expect. You will have access to 5 days and £1750 CPD allowance (FTE) and RCVS and BSAVA memberships paid. With their own Support and Development Manager, there are also opportunities for in-house non-clinical training to support your clinical CPD.
